Beth Gulotta never set out to start a movement. But somewhere between navigating her own life transitions—meeting her partner at 34, having her first child at 40, and battling the silent pressures of societal timelines—she realized something profound: too many women feel like they’re racing against an invisible clock.
Now, as a licensed mental health therapist, founder of NYC Therapeutic Wellness, and host of the podcast Quiet the Clock, Gulotta is giving voice to a conversation that many experience but few openly discuss.
“I was living it,” she shared on the Unconventional Life podcast with Jules Schroeder. “Then I started hearing it from other women. The fear, the pressure, the feeling of running out of time—it was everywhere. And I thought, Why aren’t we talking about this more?”
The Birth of Quiet the Clock
For years, Gulotta sat across from clients struggling with anxiety, doubt, and grief over not following the traditional life script. She saw how deeply the messaging about when things should happen—marriage, kids, career—was affecting mental health.
But this wasn’t just professional; it was personal. “I watched my identical twin get married and have kids before I even met my partner,” she recalled. “I felt disconnected from my friends, my family—like I was in some alternate reality where I was behind in a race I didn’t even sign up for.”
This internal struggle became the foundation of Quiet the Clock, a podcast that challenges the outdated belief that life must follow a rigid timeline. Through candid conversations with experts and personal storytelling, Gulotta is helping women shift from comparison to self-compassion.
The Fertility Myth: 35 Is Not a Cliff
One of the most damaging narratives women inherit is that turning 35 is a fertility death sentence. Beth is living proof that this simply isn’t true.
She conceived naturally at 39 and sees countless women doing the same in their late 30s and 40s. “The idea that if you don’t have kids by 35, you’re doomed is completely unhelpful,” she says.
But she doesn’t stop at just debunking myths—she’s also empowering women with real options. “There’s so much you can do to support your fertility,” she explains. “Egg freezing is one option, but there are also lifestyle changes, supplementation, and functional medicine approaches that can improve egg quality.”
The challenge? Navigating the vastly different conversations between Western medicine and holistic approaches. “It’s frustrating because they don’t always align. But at the end of the day, your body is unique. Your path is yours to create.”
The Power of Mindset: Reframing the Narrative
One of the most powerful lessons Gulotta teaches—both in therapy and through her podcast—is how we speak to ourselves matters.
Schroeder shared her own experience of feeling like she had done it all wrong—prioritizing career over family, questioning her choices as she entered her mid-30s. Gulotta’s response? Reframe the narrative.
“How you talk about your life becomes your reality,” she says. “Instead of saying ‘I don’t have kids,’ say ‘I don’t have kids yet.’ That one word changes everything.” This small linguistic shift is part of a larger philosophy: life isn’t a series of missed opportunities—it’s unfolding exactly as it should.
Gulotta also challenges the belief that success follows a straight line. “We’re still following this outdated blueprint of how life is supposed to go. That model doesn’t fit anymore—and it’s time we stop forcing ourselves into it.”
The Friendship Pyramid: Managing Expectations in Relationships
Another area where Gulotta’s work shines is in helping women navigate relationships and friendships as life shifts. She created a tool called the Friendship Pyramid, designed to help people evaluate their relationships and set realistic expectations.
“When we don’t manage our expectations in friendships, they can be disappointing and even painful,” she says. The pyramid categorizes friendships from ‘ride-or-die’ connections at the top to more casual acquaintances at the bottom—giving people a framework to see where they’re investing their energy.
“I’ve seen people have major ‘aha’ moments, realizing they’re putting all their time into lower-tier friendships while neglecting the people who truly show up for them,” she shares.
Faith, Freedom, and the Unconventional Path
Gulotta’s own life has been a series of unconventional pivots. She started in finance, quickly realized the corporate world wasn’t for her, and spent years in trial and error—studying corporate communications, school counseling, and finally, mental health therapy.
“I didn’t have a clear direction. But I knew what I didn’t want,” she says. “And sometimes, that’s enough to start.” Through it all, faith has played a huge role. “There’s this idea that we’re waiting on God to deliver what we want,” she shares.
“But what if God is waiting on us—to grow, to become the version of ourselves that’s ready for what we’re asking for? This perspective shift has been a game-changer for her—and it’s one she shares with the women she works with.
