Ep342: Building Magnetic Brands with SimplyBe. Agency CEO and Founder Jessica Zweig
January 23, 2023
“Clarity is king, and consistency is queen.” – Jessica Zweig
The award-winning CEO and Founder of SimplyBe. Agency has many accolades to back up the amazing work that she does. Forbes named her a Personal Branding Expert, Crain named her 2020’s Most Notable Entrepreneur, and she won the Stevie® Award for Female Entrepreneur of the Year for two years in a row!
It hasn’t always been rainbows and butterflies, however. She began her career as an actress, working odd jobs ranging from cocktail waitress to nanny. In this episode, she shares with us her journey to the top.
Her entrepreneurial journey began with an online blog turned online magazine platform, which she ran for 7 years. This is where she learned everything about being in business, from knowing nothing about it to reaching critical success. Eventually, she realized that working on the online magazine did not serve her anymore and that it was not aligned with any aspect of her life. Ultimately, that breakdown led to a breakthrough. She left, started her own venture, and SimplyBe. Agency was born.
Going through this transition brought about many challenges, including battling the pressure building up inside her—the internal knowing that something is missing and that there is a journey to be made. She believes that knowing yourself and working on yourself are the best ways to grow and be successful.
“When we are truly ourselves, we allow other people to do the same. We become the permission when we courageously step forward into our unapologetic light and shine it no matter what people think of it.”
Jessica has a very unique take on personal branding. While it’s easy to write off as just ego, image, producing social media content, keeping up with the trends, and just overall connecting with your audience, she thinks that the core of personal branding lies in uncovering who you really are, embodying your value, and knowing how to articulate that story in the world. Pulling back the curtains and showing vulnerability are sure-fire ways to build a magnetic brand.
“Humans are complex. We’re not Coca-Cola, Apple, or Hyatt Hotels. The magic really depends on coming to the table with your humanity, your imperfection, and your truth. Combine that into a clarified story that maps the value you have for other people and why someone would pay you money to do what you do.”
Jessica shares more of her wisdom in this week’s episode, but she also has an upcoming event!
